Dr. Theresa Welles
Theresa Welles, PhD, is a Licensed Psychologist who offers evidence-based treatment for anxiety (OCD, Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, and GAD) and mood disorders, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, health challenges, occupational and phase of life issues, and relationship difficulties. Clinically, Dr. Welles specializes in cognitive behavioral and interpersonal therapeutic approaches, often incorporating exposure-based therapy including ERP for OCD, emotional regulation, and mindfulness-based strategies both in group and individual treatment.
Dr. Welles has over 20 years of professional experience in a variety of settings, including school systems, private practice, universities, and medical facilities. Her experience has made her especially proficient in assessment and case conceptualization, clinical consultation, and provision of the most effective, evidence-based interventions for her clients. She tailors treatment to the individual, collaborating with clients to help them make decisions that are balanced, rational and well-explored, strengthening reasoning and problem-solving skills, and increasing independence and self-esteem. She provides a therapeutic space to try out new ways of being, thinking and feeling, while helping clients overcome their fears.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Welles has been actively involved in leadership and advocacy roles. She received a Gubernatorial appointment to the board of directors for Florida Health Choices, Inc., and has directed clinical services at a university and medical center. She has also been dedicated to supporting the success of future professionals in the field of psychology by coordinating training and supervision programs at Florida State, Georgia State, and Kennesaw State Universities. Her research and training experiences have ranged from the study of factors involved in academic and career success for individuals with Anxiety, ADHD and Learning Disabilities, to obtaining certifications in CBT and mindfulness.
Originally from New York and Florida, Dr. Welles has lived in Georgia since 2010. She currently resides in Alpharetta, with her husband and children. She loves college football and rock concerts, just as much as attending the theater and museums. Her free time is spent being with friends and family, yoga or kick boxing (depending on her mood), traveling, reading, and doing just about anything that allows her to be outdoors.
